Lt. Gen. Iftikhar Ali Khan laid to rest

Former Secretary Defense Lt.  General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Chakri on Sunday 23rd August 2009. Lt General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan, who died after protracted illness on Saturday was the elder brother of the PML-N senior leaders and opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan. General Iftikhar was from the 2nd Entry at Cadet College Hasanabdal and held the position of the President of Abdalians Association when he was serving as Chairman NDC.

The funeral prayers were attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs  of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid, Secretary Defense, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N Joint Secretary Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, PML-N MNAs including Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Khawaja Asif Mehmood, MPAs, armed forces personnel, religious scholars, local leadership of PML-N, notables of the locality and people belonging to various walks of life. Station Commander Rawalpindi Brig Zaman Khan, on behalf of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, laid a  wreath on the grave of Lt. Gen. (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan.

Late Lt General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan served as the Chief of the General Staff (CGS), Pakistan Army. He was appointed as Defense Secretary in 1997 and remained in the office till 1999.  General Iftikhar Ali Khan was also conferred with military distinctions including Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Basalat.

We pray that may Allah give him His choicest place in Heaven and the family the courage to bear this loss.

General Iftikhar Ali Khan, as mentioned hereinabove, was from the 2nd Entry of Abdalians. I am his nephew and also an ex-Abdalian myself(40th entry). Besides me, his son (Owais Iftikhar) and two other nephews(Wahaj Janjua & Saqib Malik) have also been Abdalians. Late General Sb, use to speak very highly of Cadet College and was always proud of being an ex-Abdalian. His death has been a great loss to the family and friends. He was one gem of a person, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Honestly i tell you he was one of the most humble souls on earth. Dear Abdalians, i request you to pray for the departed soul. May he rest in peace and Almighty Allah grant him Jannah tul firdous. Aameen
