Former Secretary Defense Lt. General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Chakri on Sunday 23rd August 2009. Lt General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan, who died after protracted illness on Saturday was the elder brother of the PML-N senior leaders and opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan. General Iftikhar was from the 2nd Entry at Cadet College Hasanabdal and held the position of the President of Abdalians Association when he was serving as Chairman NDC.
The funeral prayers were attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Tariq Majid, Secretary Defense, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N Joint Secretary Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, PML-N MNAs including Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Khawaja Asif Mehmood, MPAs, armed forces personnel, religious scholars, local leadership of PML-N, notables of the locality and people belonging to various walks of life. Station Commander Rawalpindi Brig Zaman Khan, on behalf of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, laid a wreath on the grave of Lt. Gen. (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan.
Late Lt General (Retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan served as the Chief of the General Staff (CGS), Pakistan Army. He was appointed as Defense Secretary in 1997 and remained in the office till 1999. General Iftikhar Ali Khan was also conferred with military distinctions including Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Sitara-e-Basalat.
