Nasir Durrani appointed new IGP in KPK

Nasir Khan Durrani was appointed on Monday 23rd September, 2013 as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), replacing Mr. Ehsan Ghani. The government of KP had earlier requested the federal government for the appointment, as Mr. Ghani had been posted by the caretaker government. Mr. Shahbaz Sharif on previous occasions had been reluctant to let Nasir Durrani go because of his highly professional reputation and good performance.

The police reshuffling was formally initiated after the May 11 elections. Sources close to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif related that Secretary Establishment Division Shahid Aziz had forwarded a summary to the premier to this effect, in which the names of three officers had been nominated for the post of IG KP police. Nominees for the post of IG police included the then Punjab Counter Terrorism Department Additional IG Nasir Khan Durrani and two others.

The appointment came a day after the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was shaken by a heinous attack on church goers. The attack claimed 80 lives and injured another 120. Thirty-four women and seven children were among the dead. Seventeen injured were reported to be in critical condition.

Nasir Khan Durrani belongs to the 16th Entry and was in Jinnah Wing. We wish him a successful tenure and in bringing law and order to the province and pray that may Allah protect him and the people of KPK.
